  The house was began 1860 but the mansion was never completed and referred to after the war as "Kirk's Folly." It sat unfinished slowly deteriorating until purchased in 1946 and lavishly restored. Fire gutted the house several years ago. It is hoped that the exterior can be restored and that sometime in the future, vistors will be at least be allowed to admire it from the outside.
