The titles of all pages that match your search query will be displayed 20 at a time, with the most relevant pages listed first.
Our search software finds pages which have exact matches for all of the words you search for.
If no such pages are found, it lists pages which contain one or more of the words in your search query ... and it notes what it's done near the upper left corner of the results page.
Important Search Tips
- Since South Carolina plantations are the focus of this website, it will usually not be helpful to include the words South Carolina and plantation in your search requests.
- Searching for singular and plural forms of a word can produce dramatically different results. Compare house and houses.
- Capitalization does not matter. Searching for mccormick will produce the same results as searching for McCormick.
- If you can't find a person's full name, look for just his or her last name.
- To search for an exact phrase, put quotes around the phrase. Example: "Black River"
- To require a word to be on a page, type a plus sign before the word.
To require that a word not appear on a page, type a minus sign before it. Example: +Cooper -River
- If a search query word ends with an asterisk *, any word which starts with the same letters will match the query. Example: Indian* will match Indian, Indians, and Indiana.
- If a query word contains a question mark ?, any word that has the other letters in corresponding positions will match. Example: McL??d will match both McLeod and McLoud.
