Records of Colonel Isaac Hayne
During Colonel Isaac Hayne's ownership of Hayne Hall, Pear Hill, and Sycamore he kept records concerning his plantations and people in his community. He compiled his records from newspapers and other sources. The transcription below is only part of the records he kept. It contains information on his slaves - births, deaths, and sales. It also includes notes on plantation management such as the issuing of blankets and the work of overseers, plowmen, housekeepers, and others.
In this transcription abbreviations, spellings, and punctuation marks have been preserved. Line breaks also remain intact, as well as column structure. Indentations and spacing are difficult to replicate on the Web and may be distorted or omitted. [?] represents an unknown word.
A complete copy of Colonel Isaac Hayne's records can be found at the South Carolina Historical Society, File 34-0560. Several portions of the records have been published in the South Carolina Historical Magazine, Volumes 10, 11, and 12.
