- ? – Dr. John A. Warren owned the plantation (1).
- Early 1900s – The Boynton family raised cattle on a portion of the plantation. They constructed a Victorian-style farmhouse. The Boynton House was still standing in 2016 but has been exposed to the elements for years and in poor condition (2).
- 1990 – Ducks Unlimited and other contributing partners purchased the property which was called Mary's Island Reserved at the time (2).
- 2005 – The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources became owners and renamed the 8,048 acre refuge the Donnelley Wildlife Management Area (2).
